Care & Maintenance
Care and Maintenance for Full Metal Spinning Fishing Reel
Materials Needed:
- Freshwater
- Soft brush (toothbrush or dedicated reel brush)
- Lint-free cloth
- Reel lubricant (light oil and grease)
- Screwdriver (if disassembly is needed)
Step-by-step instructions
- Dry Completely: Use a lint-free cloth to dry all surfaces. Open the bail and let the reel air-dry in a shaded, well-ventilated area. Avoid direct sunlight or heat sources.
- Inspect Regularly: Check for grit, corrosion, or resistance when turning the handle. Inspect the bail wire and line roller for wear or misalignment.
- Lubricate Moving Parts: Apply a drop of light oil to the bail roller, bail arm pivot, and handle shaft. Use reel grease on gears if disassembling. Avoid over-lubricating, as it attracts dirt.
- Clean the Drag System: Remove the spool occasionally and wipe the drag washers with a dry or slightly damp cloth. Reassemble only when completely dry.
- Store Properly: Store the reel in a cool, dry place, preferably in a reel case or protective bag. Keep the bail open to prevent spring tension degradation.
- Service Annually: For heavy use, consider a full breakdown and service once a year, especially for saltwater fishing.
